So what are the main recombinant antibody resources of Addgene?

At present, Addgene mainly supplies antibody resources in two aspects:

Universal antibody

For example, anti-label antibodies:

Project background

March 28, 2022 - Addgene, a non-profit biocollection, now begins production and distribution of ready-to-use recombinant antibodies. The first monoclonal antibody resources to be collected by Addgene are part of the Open Resource for Neuroscience Antibodies (NABOR), an open platform for recombinant antibodies and other affinity reagents for neuroscience in the United States. NABOR, which conducts research through the Advancing Innovative Neurotechnologies ® (BRAIN) initiative, is funded by the Brain Institute of the National Institutes of Health.

"One of the goals of the NIH BRAIN Initiative is to create a widely accessible research community of tools, resources, and emerging technologies. Addgene's new open recombinant antibody access platform does just that, accelerating our understanding of the structure and function of the brain by unlocking this potential, "said Dr. John Ngai, director of the Brain Initiative at the National Institutes of Health.

Antibody source

The first collection includes 27 antibodies designed and tested by Dr. James Trimmer, Ph.D., Distinguished Professor of Physiology and membrane Biology at the University of California, Davis School of Medicine. Trimmer's lab, which uses these antibodies to study the function of ion channels in neurons, will conduct quality control on NABOR affinity reagents.

Addgene will expand its catalog of ready-to-use antibodies by using the same hosting model as plasmids and viral vectors, and by collaborating with scientists in other fields.

"We are excited to share this new resource with the scientific research community," said Dr. Melina Fan, co-founder and Chief Scientific Officer of Addgene. "There is an urgent need to make these affinity reagents available to the global scientific research community to enhance the reproducibility of experiments. Addgene's mission is to provide transparent research materials and information, and we are making these antibody-related sequences, plasmids, and data available to scientists through Addgene."

Distribution object

This group of antibodies is targeted at scientists who study neuroproteins, and can be targeted at both scientific and industrial scientists. It is recommended to use these antibodies in a variety of broad applications in neuroscience research, such as western blotting and immunohistochemistry, for quantifying and visualizing study proteins, respectively, to better understand their function in the brain and their role in disease.
